Most of us look forward to December each year, with its multiple holidays, including Christmas, Kwanzaa, Hanukkah, and New Year’s Eve and Day.

Many of us travel as well, even if it’s just across town, and that means car wrecks are coming.

As difficult as dealing with an insurance claim is at other times, it’s worse during the holidays.

We all have lots of obligations to our work, our friends and families, and our religions. The insurance companies know that.

The training programs of insurance companies teach their adjusters to sound as reasonable as possible at the beginning of your claim, but then to push hard to get you to settle before you speak to a lawyer or have a good idea of what your medical condition is.

You have plenty of time if the wreck just happened.  The adjusters typically won’t tell you this, but for most personal injury claims in North Carolina, you have three years from the date of injury, whether it’s a car accident, trucking collision, animal attack, slip and fall, or some other type of claim.  (There are exceptions, notably for wrongful death, which you can learn about by clicking here.)

Adjusters are trained to make you think you are on THEIR timetable, but that’s simply not true. Your best course of action is to see your doctor as soon after the wreck as you can, and follow their advice as to your treatment. Also, consult a lawyer and determine not only what your rights are and what your timetable is, but find out whether you REALLY need a lawyer or not.

Our firm is not a volume firm. That means we don’t sign every person who contacts us.  In fact, we turn down more cases than we sign. That’s because not every case needs a lawyer, and we only want to sign those cases where we really think we can help you do better with us than without us. We’ll give you an honest, no-risk evaluation of your claim, and if we don’t think we can help, we’ll tell you so. Contact us today by calling 919-348-4361 or click here for our contact form.
