If you’re hurt in a car accident, remember that insurance companies are NOT on your side. It’s entirely legal for them to work against you, so long as they don’t flat-out lie. They subtly pressure you or undermine your claim:

✶  Providing a rental car seems nice, but they’re required to pay loss of use: getting your rental saves THEM money, AND makes them seem easy to deal with;

✶  Saying they’ll cover your treatment: but they won’t pay until you’re done;

✶  By claiming to cover treatment, they may get you to not use your health insurance: but then you’re charged higher rates for treatment and may be turned over to collections;

✶  Offering to pay for doctors also implies that they should have some input into what kind of treatment you need  THEY DON’T HAVE THAT RIGHT. AT ALL;

✶  They claim to need recorded statements, which makes you feel like they’re being official and legitimate, but they use those statements against you whenever they can;

✶  Saying they need to “close the file”: makes you think you have less time than you really do to get treatment and resolve your claim;
