Sean Cole

Learn More About Sean

Sean joined Miller Law Group team in December of 2018 and brings a wealth of knowledge and experience in the areas of catastrophic injury, wrongful death, trucking collisions, and traumatic brain injury claims.

Sean graduated from Wake Forest University School of Law in 1997 and was admitted to the NC State Bar that August. Working for a firm that worked for insurance companies, he started trying cases five months into his practice. However, realizing he wanted to work for people rather than companies, he changed his practice, working for injured people since 2000.

Sean uses his abilities as a trial lawyer to hold insurance companies and big businesses accountable. In dozens of trials, he’s fought against the insurance industry and Fortune 500 companies, trying cases throughout North Carolina and representing clients from throughout the United States, Canada, and Central America. Sean’s abilities in the courtroom and his professionalism have earned him Martindale-Hubbell’s highest rating, “AV”, for both ability and ethics, both from other attorneys and from judges. He has held this rating for over a decade. Sean has likewise been selected as a “Rising Star” and a Super Lawyer for North Carolina for years.

Sean represents people against some of the largest insurance companies in the world, and against corporate giants like FedEx, Home Depot, Big Lots, and North American Van Lines to name only a few. He has represented clients with claims against the North Carolina and Federal Governments. Sean handles catastrophic injury and wrongful death claims, trucking collisions, and traumatic brain injury claims. He has handled over one hundred clients with claims for defective pharmaceuticals or hip implants. Sean focuses a significant part of his practice on helping people injured by drunk drivers.

Sean volunteers with the Wake County Bar Association to raise funds for North Carolina Legal Aid, and has worked for years as the head writer for the Wake County Bar Awards, a musical comedy program which gives humorous awards for real events in the local legal community. This program has raised significant funds for Legal Aid to help represent poor people in North Carolina. Sean has twice received the Wake County Bar Association’s President’s Award of Excellence for this work. He volunteers his time with his church, and judges student trial competitions. Sean was humbled to be named to the North Carolina Pro Bono Honor Society for 2017, for attorneys who volunteer 50 hours or more of pro bono legal work.

Sean is currently a member of the Southern Trial Lawyers’ Association, the American Association for Justice, and the Wake County and North Carolina Bar Associations. He is a member of the North Carolina Advocates for Justice, and has served in leadership positions and taught continuing education classes for them for almost twenty years. In 2013, Sean was inducted as a lifetime member of the Million Dollar Advocates Forum and the Multi-Million Dollar Advocates Forum. Sean is the author of several editions of the North Carolina Manual of Complaints, and has taught dozens of continuing education programs across the state for various groups.

Sean is an Eagle Scout and participates in the YMCA Trailblazers’ program with his daughter. He is a lover of traditional music, especially bluegrass, and is a professional member of the International Bluegrass Music Association, planning his whole Autumn around the IBMA festival that comes to Raleigh in September.

Sean and his wife (also an attorney) live in Raleigh with their daughter and attend church here. They love listening to and performing music, and are supporters of North Carolina’s State Parks and participate yearly in the parks’ 100 Mile Challenge.
