Recognized Expertise & Achievements

Chris has received numerous accolades for his achievements in the legal field. He is a proud member of the Million Dollar Advocates Forum, an exclusive organization limited to personal injury attorneys who have secured verdicts or settlements of $1 million or more. This honor is awarded to fewer than one percent of personal injury lawyers in the U.S. He has also been recognized by the American Association for Justice (AAJ) as a Top 100 Trial Lawyer. These distinctions reflect Chris’s commitment to excellence in his practice and his ability to navigate even the most challenging cases.

As a strong advocate for his clients, Chris has extensive courtroom and litigation experience. He has tried hundreds of cases and conducted thousands of mediated settlement conferences to successful resolution.

Education and Professional Background

A native of Goldsboro, North Carolina, Chris initially attended North Carolina State University and transferred to pursue a commercial art degree at East Carolina University, before changing his focus to English with a concentration in writing. He earned his Juris Doctor degree from Campbell University’s Norman Adrian Wiggins School of Law in 1993, where he laid the foundation for his legal career.

In 2000, Chris achieved certification as a North Carolina State Bar Certified Specialist in Workers’ Compensation, further honing his skills and deepening his expertise in this complex area of law.

The Specialization Certification is a rigorous process that requires proof of substantial experience in workers compensation law, a comprehensive 6 hour written examination & references from 10 lawyers, commissioners or Deputy Commissioners or judges who are familiar with the competence and qualifications of the applicant in workers compensation law. He was also admitted to practice before the Eastern District of the United States Federal Court in 2012.

With 32 years of experience, Chris has become highly skilled at navigating the labyrinth of workers’ compensation law. “The rules of workers’ compensation are so convoluted,” Chris notes, “but it’s all about turning evidence into a winning case and helping an injured worker who needs benefits to care for their family.”

Client-Focused Approach

Chris’s approach to workers’ compensation cases is hands-on and thorough. He understands that these claims often pit injured employees against powerful insurance companies with vast resources. “Insurance companies have lawyers and adjusters who are often more experienced than the average worker,” Chris says. “Without a skilled attorney, you’re at a disadvantage.” Chris works closely with his clients, gathering critical evidence such as photographs, witness statements, OSHA reports, and medical records, to build a solid case.

His commitment to his clients is reflected in his satisfaction when helping people who truly need legal assistance. “Generally, it’s the hard-working individuals who get hurt on the job, and it’s incredibly gratifying to help them get the compensation they deserve.”

Notable Case Successes

Chris has had the privilege of representing many clients who are encountering the workers’ compensation system for the first time. One particularly memorable case involved a truck driver who tragically passed away following a workplace accident. Initially, his widow’s workers’ compensation claim was denied based on the conclusion that his heart attack was caused by a pre-existing condition. However, Chris brought in a cardiologist who testified that the accident could have been the cause of the fatal heart attack. This expert testimony led to the reversal of the denial, ultimately securing benefits for the widow. “It’s gratifying to make a real difference in someone’s life and to represent individuals who are truly in need of legal help,” Chris reflects.

Outside the Office

Outside of his legal practice, Chris enjoys spending time with his wife and their two daughters. He is passionate about playing guitar, staying active through fitness, and participating in various sports. Whether at home with his family or engaged in his favorite hobbies, Chris values maintaining a healthy work-life balance.

At Miller Law Group, Chris is part of a team that is committed to helping injured workers navigate the complexities of the workers’ compensation system and get the justice they deserve. “We have a great leadership team and some outstanding lawyers who are dedicated to our clients’ success,” Chris says. “It’s a privilege to be part of such a dynamic, client-centered firm.”
