If your car has been totaled after a car wreck, the other person’s insurance company does not have to replace your car. They only have to pay you the fair market value of your vehicle. However, just because they give you a number, doesn’t mean you have to agree to that. Here are five tips to help with your negotiation:

♦︎     Go to the dealer where you bought the car, and see if they’ll give you an estimate of value

♦︎     Go to websites like Kelley Blue Book, Edmunds, and Craiglist to find comparable vehicles

♦︎     Provide receipts for any recent major repairs or upgrades (new tires, new sound system, etc)

♦︎     Ask your own insurance company for their own valuation

♦︎     Consult an experienced lawyer to see if they can give you any suggestions
