Over 54,000 Car Accidents Caused Annually by Distracted Drivers in North Carolina
According to the North Carolina Department of Transportation (NCDOT), there were over 54,000 car accidents caused by distracted drivers in 2018 alone.
That was part of a trend which NCDOT reported, since the number of distracted driving wrecks broke 50,000 annually in 2015.
Distracted drivers, meaning those texting, emailing, or otherwise distracted by some activity in their vehicle, killed 121 people in 2018.
The number of accidents caused by distracted drivers was almost DOUBLE the amount of wrecks caused by speeding drivers and drunk drivers COMBINED.
Distracted drivers caused nearly 8,000 more injuries than drunk drivers and speed drivers combined for the same year.
