A recent study by The Governor’s Highway Safety Association reported that North Carolina is one of the top 10 deadliest states for bicyclists, and the counties in the Triangle are among the most dangerous in the state.

  • From 2010-2012 North Carolina averaged 25 bicycling accident deaths per year.
  • Wake County ranked first in the state in bicycle-car accidents, both fatal and non-fatal from 2008-2012
  • 83% of bicycle-vehicle accidents occurred when the weather was clear
  • 73.5% of these accidents happened during the day.

As a cyclist it is imperative that you wear a helmet every time you ride to reduce the chance of major injury if an accident occurs.
