Understanding the Risks

Depo-Provera®, an injectable contraceptive, may increase your risk of brain tumors known as meningiomas. Although these tumors are usually benign, they can cause vision loss and other serious neurological side effects.

If you have suffered brain tumors after using Depo-Provera, we can help you join the emerging lawsuit against the drug’s manufacturers and receive compensation for your injuries.

What Is the Danger of Depo-Provera?

Depo-Provera (medroxyprogesterone acetate) is a progestin-based hormonal contraceptive that’s administered by injection every 3 months. Depo-Provera is a highly effective method of birth control, but it also has dangerous side effects.

Some long-term users of the drug—those who use it for longer than a year—may develop brain or spinal tumors known as meningiomas. These tumors are generally not cancerous, but they can have serious neurological effects.

Women who receive Depo-Provera injections regularly over more than a year are 5 times more likely to develop meningiomas, according to an article published in The BMJ, a journal of the British Medical Association.

Pfizer, the drug’s manufacturer, is well aware of these risks, but the company hasn’t updated the Depo-Provera warning label or otherwise acted to inform women who are considering using it.

Affected individuals may be able to file a lawsuit seeking compensation from the company for their injuries.

You may be eligible to file a Depo-Provera lawsuit if you or a loved one:

  • Used Depo-Provera or Depo-SubQ Provera 104 for longer than 1 year (4 injections over 12 months), and
  • Developed a type of brain or spine tumor called a meningioma
